Mary Ellen's Story
Life
After living on Capitol Hill for almost ten years long ago, since 1998 I have lived in Bethesda, Maryland with my husband (Peter m. 1989) and son (Daniel b. 1994). I am an attorney with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Wash, D.C. where I handle Clean Water Act matters. Balancing work and being a mom has been very challenging but fun. I belong to one of those "book clubs" in my neighborhood, which really helps give me a sense of community between work and home. Now an empty nester I can say that raising Daniel was amazing. He is talented in many ways. We live in a wooded, hilly neighborhood next to the Potomac River. The River is beautiful year round and we belong to a canoe club where we can paddle just down the hill. My most fun "mom job" was been to teach astronomy to Daniel's class each year - his public school has a planetarium! We have a small sailboat which we keep on the Chesapeake Bay and we still try to find so...Expand for more
me time to get out on the water. Many years ago, when I was working on cancelling a pesticide that kills birds, I developed an interest in bird watching - which I keep up with somewhat. Over the years, I have developed my interests in sailing, yoga, and the Dave Matthews Band. While it is hard to get tickets to shows, I still listen to and love music. (Jack White!!) I also still follow football and and soccer (U.S. national team in the World Cup and DC United). I still root for Michigan teams - go Tigers and Pistons, but also the Washington Nationals and I went to the last game at Tiger Stadium with my dad. I have become a beach person - we try to go to the Outer Banks every year and have also been to various parts of Florida and LA (where Peter's parents and brother's family live). In terms of travels, China, Greece, Italy and France (and recently Hawaii) - and one trip to the Bahamas . I would love to hear from old friends.
